This pretty 1979 Suzuki GS1000 may well not be for the purist but is a whole lot of “GS Thou” for not a lot of money considering what has been spent on it over the years. At some point it has been striped back to its frame that then had a very expensive paint job. Yes from a distance it looks to be pale grey metallic but get up close you will see it has a myriad of different coloured and also metallic flakes in it. This was no cheap tosh over the whole frame including the sing arm has been done, all to a very high quality. I would assume, judging by the same quality of finish, the rest of the paintwork was done at the same time by the same person, including the wheels.
As you can see it has a “GSX” tank fitted along with a cut down Giuliari seat, replacement rear shocks, braided brake lines through out and what looks like a virtually new Delkevic 4 into 1 stainless steel exhaust system, tyres look to of not done a lot of miles either. What you cant see is it had “Dyna” ignition coils along with an after market electronic ignition system and Iridium spark plugs.
The previous owner tells us it has had larger jets fitted in the carbs and Dyna jet air correctors, allowing for the 4 into 1 pipe and K and N style air filters. It starts easily and once off choke and allowed to warm through ticks over nicely, with little to none of the usual clutch rattle ( again the previous owner tells us that it has all been replaced with uprated parts but as he did it himself, there is no proof past a bag of old clutch plates etc that came with it). on the road there is a very slight stutter just as you bring the revs in but past that it pulls strongly with its Suzuki gearbox doing what they do, nice smooth gear changes. Yes the clutch is slightly heavier than usual, which again points to it being uprated, but more than manageable. Brakes etc are as good as 1978 brakes with braided hoses can be, but at least it has twin front discs not the single you can see on US bikes etc. Do the drilled discs help? Nah, doubt it but think of all the weight that saves
So there you have it, considering the last two GS Thou’s we had both made £5K plus then this looks stonking value for money, “If” you like the mods.
