Taken in P/X prior to seeing it, when this RD200 arrived with us i very nearly put it back in the van and refused it, it was that bad! But as per usual, i felt sorry for it and figured we could save it, as they say “Once gone there are no more”. So decided to do the bare minimum to get it running and go from there, see what we did have to work with? Carbs off for a clean and fettle, some basic wiring to get sparks and much to our surprise, off it went with the sweetest RD twin motor we had heard in a long time!! So that was it, decision made and we took it to pieces to start again. Now i haven’t got the patience to write out all we did, suffice to say front end was rebuilt, electrics restored, chain and sprocket kit, frame refinished, seat recovered, wheels refinished and shod with new tyres, paint work done etc. etc. etc. It was far beyond economic repair but Hey-ho!
But what we do have now is a very pretty 1979 RD200 thats fully functioning, yes “even” the electric start! That runs and rides very nicely. Cosmetics are very good apart from the original silencers have some dinks on and are a bit dull but hopefully priced sensibly enough for its new owner just to leave them as is, have seen far worse, or replace/rechrome them. Its a great wee bike that will put a smile on your face each time you see it. G
