So when back in the end of the 90’s when i was still a parallel importer, one of those nasty dealers that sold bikes far to cheap to the buying public according to Honda, Yamaha etc, we were offered the chance to buy a number of them that’s what we did. Imagine my surprise when this bike that i had sold to a gent in Leicester was offered to me by a local to me company that had it sitting in their workshop, It had made its way back to within 2 miles of where my original shop was.
For those that dont know the SP version came with the nose fairing equipped with twin lamps, a full digital dash, Brembo brakes, “Ohlins by Yamaha” suspension and metallic paint. All of which are still present. We do have the original exhaust but it has blown at the underside of the chrome silencer. Could it be repaired? Yes probably. Is it worth it? Probably not as that would also mean putting the very heavy and power sapping collector box back on.
As you can see it is still in pretty good condition all round, riding well and sounds sweet with the exhaust it has now. Tyres breaks etc are all good, paintwork is very good to. Most of the digital dash still works, just the digital gear indicator and possibly the fuel gauge (not tried more fuel yet, it may be very low) appearing not to be working/ The clocks are KMS only and with the bike is its original service book stamped up to 27k and all its old MOTs helping to back up the low 54k kms/34k miles showing on the clocks. It will come with a new mot and yes a new chain will be fitted for those eagle eyed amongst you, ordered just waiting for it to arrive. So a rare little beastie to be sure and one that in todays inflated prices looks good value for money.
